
Getting Your Bathroom Heat Just Right
When you’re picking out infrared lamps for a bathroom, it really comes down to a simple balancing act. You want the room to feel cozy, but you don’t want to turn the place into a sauna or waste a ton of electricity. If you put a massive, high-wattage lamp in a tiny room, you’re just throwing money away—and you might actually overheat the fixture. On the flip side, if you go too low, you’ll be standing there shivering, wondering why you bothered installing it in the first place.
How much power do you actually need?
It mostly depends on how much space you’re dealing with. For a small powder room—you know, those tiny half-baths—something between 250W and 400W is usually plenty. But if you’ve got a big master bath, you’ll probably want 600W or 800W. Or, if the room is shaped weirdly, just put in a few smaller lamps so you don’t end up with “cold spots” where the heat doesn’t reach. We stick with short-wave infrared for this. Why? Because it doesn’t waste time trying to warm up all the air in the room. It hits you and the surfaces around you directly. You feel that warmth the second you flip the switch. It’s instant.
Don’t forget the water
Since this is a bathroom, water is everywhere. That’s why an IP44 rating is a must. In plain English, that means the lamp can handle splashes and keeps the gunk out. We use tempered glass and tight seals to make sure moisture doesn’t sneak into the electrical parts. If those seals leak, the internals will corrode and the lamp will just die. Not a great look.
A few things to watch out for
Here’s the thing about higher wattage: it’s fast, but it’s heavy on your electrical system. If you hook up three 800W lamps to one weak circuit, you’re going to trip the breaker the moment you turn them on. Not exactly the relaxing start to a morning you were hoping for. And keep an eye on where you mount them. A powerful lamp puts out a lot of intense heat right at the source. If it’s too low, it could actually warp plastic fixtures or just feel uncomfortable on your skin. Check the manual for the clearance distances. It’s a boring read, but it keeps things safe.
