
Why we put our bathroom lamps through “the torture chamber”
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. Between the steam from a hot shower and the constant humidity, it’s basically a tropical rainforest in there. If a heating lamp isn’t built right, the seals leak, the filament rusts, and the whole thing pops in a few weeks. We’ve seen it happen too many times. That’s why we don’t just “hope” our lamps last—we put them through damp-heat aging tests.
The battle against moisture
Most of these heaters use quartz glass. It’s great for heat, but the real danger is where the metal electrodes meet the glass. That’s the weak spot. Moisture loves to sneak in through tiny, microscopic cracks. Once that water vapor touches the tungsten filament, it’s game over. It eats away at the wire, creates a hot spot, and then—snap. To stop this, we lock our lamps in chambers with 95% humidity at high temperatures for hundreds of hours. It’s basically a stress test on steroids. If a seal is off by even a hair, the lamp fails. Simple as that.
It’s not just the water—it’s the shock
The humidity is one thing, but the temperature swings are what really do the damage. Think about it. A lamp goes from room temperature to hundreds of degrees in seconds. Then it cools back down in a damp room. That constant expanding and contracting puts a ton of pressure on the bond between the glass and the metal. We keep a close eye on the resistance during these cycles. If we see a spike, we know the connection is starting to give way.
Why we do it (and why it costs more)
Here’s the truth: these strict tests mean we throw away more units during production. It makes the initial cost a bit higher. But honestly? It’s worth it. Nobody wants the headache of a lamp flickering out or popping a few months after installation. It’s a nightmare to replace and a pain for the customer. By being brutal with our own products now, we make sure you get a lamp that actually lasts as long as we say it will. If you skip the aging test, you’re basically just gambling that you got a “lucky” batch. We’d rather just make sure every single one works.
