
Keeping Things Safe with Gold-Coated IR Lamps
If you’ve ever worked around a semiconductor wet-bench, you know the deal. You’re dealing with chemicals that are aggressive, volatile, and—in some cases—ready to blow if things go wrong. Now, imagine throwing a high-temperature infrared lamp into that mix. Standard quartz tubes just won’t cut it here. That’s why we use gold-coated IR lamps. They’re built for the chaos of volatile atmospheres. Why the gold? Think of a normal IR lamp like a lightbulb that throws heat everywhere. In a room full of solvent vapors, that “everywhere” is a problem. If stray heat hits those vapors at the wrong angle, you’ve hit the flash point. Not great. We fix this by putting a gold coating on the back of the quartz envelope. It acts like a mirror, bouncing all that infrared energy forward right onto the wafer. You get a way more concentrated heat hit where you actually need it, and the rest of your chassis stays cool. But the heat isn’t the only enemy. Corrosive gases love to eat through wiring. To stop that, we wrap the lamp ends in a hermetic seal. It’s a tight, airtight wrap that keeps the chemicals away from the electrical contacts. No corrosion, no short circuits, and—most importantly—no sparks to start a fire. The trade-off Here’s the catch: when you push that much energy forward, the quartz tube feels the strain. You’re going to see some intense heat gradients across the glass. If your cooling system isn’t up to the task—especially around the mounting brackets—the tubes can warp or just give up on you. It’s a balancing act. Getting it on the floor We designed these to be simple drop-in replacements. You plug them into your current power supply and you’re good to go. But a quick word of advice:**check your seals.**Every single time you do maintenance, look at those seals. A tiny crack in a chemical zone is a massive safety risk. For us, keeping that seal intact is way more important than chasing raw wattage. It’s the only way to keep the process steady and the people in the building safe.
